Claude's Architecture & Constitutional AI

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant, and it is built differently from other major language models. While all large language models share the same basic Transformer architecture, the decisions made during training — what data to use, how to align the model with human values, and what behaviors to encourage or discourage — produce meaningfully different tools. Understanding how Claude was built and why Anthropic made the choices they did will help you use Claude more effectively and understand its distinctive strengths.
